[ARCHIVED] Community Invited to March 28 to View Final Design for Eagle Pool

Eagle Pool News Flash (2)

The town of Eagle and Mountain Recreation are delighted to invite the community to an open house on Thursday, March 28 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Eagle Pool and Ice Rink, where the final design concepts for the Eagle Pool will be shared.

Thanks to a collaborative effort, shaped by input from residents, stakeholders and pool experts, the town and Mountain Rec have undergone value engineering efforts to meet the maximum project budget of $13 million – prioritizing essential subsurface work and increasing pool size.

The new pool will nearly double the water surface area by moving to two bodies of water; featuring a leisure pool and a separate lap pool. New family changing rooms will also be added to the facility during the construction.

Additionally, thanks to a recently awarded GOCO grant, the town and Mountain Rec will have access to $500,000 for the Eagle Pool, specifically to help fund as many community-requested pool amenities as possible that were identified through a survey in December 2023.

“We’re thrilled to share the final designs for the new Eagle Pool and continue the conversation with residents,” Assistant Eagle Town Manager Melissa Daruna said. “We couldn’t be more excited to be one step closer to completion and see the pool grow in size, despite having to plan for a sizeable portion of our budget to go to soil work that will go unseen but is crucial for us to get right.”

The previous pool closed in 2022 when subsurface soil compaction had lowered the northwest corner of the pool significantly enough not to permit proper filtration of pool water to ensure swimmer safety.

Working with soil engineers, the town and Mountain Rec have taken necessary steps to address this challenge and ensure the pool’s longevity, including the completion of a thorough geotechnical study. Compaction grout columns will be installed under the entire outdoor pool and deck area to minimize future settling of the area. A liner with underground drainage lines will collect any subsurface water under the pools and channel it to an inspection port so it can be removed.

Construction is scheduled to begin in late May or early June, weather permitting. The new Eagle Pool is expected to open in May 2025.
