Haymaker Trail Temporary Closure – Update
The Haymaker Trail remains closed at this time. During this past week’s trail closure, wintering elk have been bedding down and grazing in the fields directly adjacent to the Haymaker Trail. Town Open Space staff have continued to observe mountain lion tracks on the trail itself. Due to the unusual amount of snow coverage and cold temperatures this winter, there are very few areas of exposed grasses where the elk can feed. They have moved to the western half of the Haymeadow property and along the exposed portions of Brush Creek in search of food. The sustained winter weather is also occurring when wildlife’s stored energy is already running low. For these reasons, the Haymaker Trail will remain closed for the time being. A social media post will be made when the trail has reopened. Thank you for your patience.
