How Are Fees Calculated?
First, check with our FEE SCHEDULE above.
To calculate for building permit fees, we take the highest between the estimated valuation of labor and materials OR the ICC Building Data Valuation table (updated twice a year). Please keep in mind our jurisdiction uses a multiplier of 2.
Example: Your new single-family home has livable square footage of 3100, and a garage of 1000 sq ft. The building data valuation reflects 169.09 for livable square footage and 66.20 for garage. The calculations are as follows:
169.09 x 3100 x 2= $1,048,358
66.20 x 1000 x 2= $132,400
$1,048,358 + $132,400= $1,180,758 (the estimated valuation of your new build)
Please keep in mind, fees for PIF/Sewer Tap/Water Tap are calculated through Public Works, although charged through the same system as building fees and required to be paid before permit release, updated calculations and information regarding PIF/Sewer Tap/Water Tap should be through Public Works.
Use Tax Information
The Use Tax Paid Certificate provides an exemption from municipal sales tax on construction materials for contractors. While this exemption generally applies to purchases within the Town of Eagle, it may also be recognized by vendors outside the town. However, acceptance of the certificate is at the vendor's discretion. If a vendor declines to honor the exemption, contractors may apply for a sales tax refund through the state, which collects sales tax on behalf of the Town.
Use tax is calculated based on the estimated valuation of a project. It assumes that 50% of the valuation is allocated for materials, which is then multiplied by the Town’s 4% use tax rate. For example, if a project valuation is $500,000, the estimated material cost would be $250,000. Applying the 4% use tax rate results in a $10,000 use tax obligation.
The Town does not refund use tax proceeds for sales tax paid by the contractor. If a contractor believes they were overcharged on use tax, they may submit receipts for review, as permitted by Town Code, to determine eligibility for a refund. However, contractors must provide a complete set of receipts to ensure accurate reporting.
